New Way is an alternative school program. It is an Education and Community Partnership Program between the Upper Grand District School Board and Wyndham House, supported by CMHA and Family and Children's Services. There is a full-time teacher from the school board and a full-time worker from the agency on site at all times. We serve high school-aged students.  
 
We have a school component and a therapeutic component. We run an art program as well as a healthy eating program supported by the Children's Foundation. We serve a maximum of 16 students in a day, 8 at a time.  
 
New Way is a referral-only program and has a set attendance, so there is no drop-in component to the school; the same students attend regularly. 
 
Volunteer duties: Helping out in the classroom, assisting with schoolwork, preparing snacks and assisting in making small meals, cleaning up classroom
Guelph Tool Library
The Guelph Tool Library is excited to be working with Habitat for Humanity Guelph-Wellington to bring back Re:Purpose Fest, a free community recycling festival. Re:Purpose Fest brings together a variety of community initiatives that help repair, re-home, reuse, and recycle household goods. This one day event will take place on Saturday, May 28th from 11 am to 2 pm at 104 Dawson Road. 
 
The following volunteer opportunities are available: 
1. Set up/ tear down -9:00 am - 11:30 am and 2:00 pm - 5 pm: Help with the loading and unloading of tables, chairs, tents, signage, donated goods 
2.Greeters - 11:00 - 1:00 or 1:00 - 3:00: Directing traffic, directing visitors to the different sections of the event,  
3. Donation Station Attendant - Some organizations won't have a person on hand to talk about their initiative, or to approve/reject donations. Each table will have a sign with acceptable/non accepted items and more info about the organization

GHTC hiking trails in and around Guelph
Develop monthly hike program of iconic hikes to familiarize members with our trails. 
Attend monthly GHTC executive committee meetings and present Hike Coordinator report. 
Lead periodic hikes. 
Recruit prospective hike leaders in order to develop an enthusiastic and knowledgeable team of hike leaders ready to engage the public. 
Work with other members of the Executive Committee to provide information relevant to the maintenance of the trails as well as information relevant to our members via the seasonal newsletter.

The Steering Committee runs the day to day operations of the Guelph Tool Library and is responsible for creating and administering sub-committees as the needs of the Guelph Tool Library requires. The Steering Committee works by consensus and each member of the Steering Committee has an equal say in the operation of the Guelph Tool Library.  
 
We are seeking a volunteer who is able to : 
-provide expert input to the ongoing development of the Guelph Tool Library 
-provide Human Resources expertise, to assist us in our charitable status application 
-identify and monitor priorities, risks, timelines and quality of Guelph Tool Library projects 
-provide support, guidance, decision-making and oversight of progress to Guelph Tool Library projects

Re:Purpose Fest - Saturday May 28, 2022. This free community recycling event and barbeque is taking place at the Habitat for Humanity Restore. Attendees at Re:Purpose Fest will be able to recycle many items that normally end up in the landfill or learn about unique ways to repurpose items.  
 
Guelph Largest Clothing Swap - Sunday October 23 at the Old Quebec Street Shoppes. This event is part of the City of Guelph's Waste Reduction Week.

The SEED is a not-for-profit food project at the Guelph Community Health Centre that was 
created by a coalition to work towards a community with no barriers to healthy food. The SEED delivers programs and operates a social enterprise that address the causes and effects of food security.  
 
Groceries from the SEED is a pay-what-you-can online grocery store with a purpose! When you shop at Groceries from the SEED you help people in your community afford good food. Packing and Warehouse Crew volunteers work together as a team (physically distance) to accurately pick and pack fresh food and frozen meals into customized baskets for home delivery. This role is a great fit for someone looking for an in-person role, working with other volunteers and doesn't mind wearing a mask for the duration of their shift.  
 
Please note: There is a physical element to this role. Some of the produce is heavy or awkward. For example: a full cabbage, bag of potatoes and the full food baskets. 
 
Packing and Warehouse Crew works on Tuesday and Friday 11-3pm.

Online Program
WE Breastfeed & Chestfeed program supports parents feeding human milk in any way, in any amount. Parents can receive support in two ways. One-to-one telephone support with trained and experienced parent-volunteers or weekly drop-in Breastfeeding & Chestfeed Cafes. Cafe is offered in an online format and is a great place for parents to socialize with other breastfeeding / chestfeeding families and get support with challenges. 
 
Become trained to offer support and lead group sessions providing feeding & parenting support to other parents. Keep logs of supporting, track hours, remain in good communication with the program coordinator. 
 
 
IMPORTANT Information:  
 
Volunteers in this role are required to have had breastfeed or chestfeeding experience. Please consider joining this program as an administrative support or in a health promotion role if you do not have breast or chest feeding experience.  
 
Guelph CHC acknowledges the importance of Peer-led work and offers 20 hours of training for this position but also ask for a minimum 6 month commitment. 
 
One of our strategic aims to build capacity in our community. Volunteers in this role must have a connection to Guelph.

Delivery Crew Volunteers are critical to the success of this program. Delivery Crew Volunteers pick up Groceries from the SEED baskets at the packing warehouse and delivery them to community members homes. Volunteers are required to drop groceries off at the door and do not enter homes.  
 
This role a great for someone who would like to volunteer in-person, has access to a vehicle, would like to interact directly with clients (distant, delivery to the door only) and doesn't mind working alone. 
 
Use of personal vehicle and cell phone are required for this role. Mileage compensation of use of personal vehicle is $6 per delivery route (6-10 stops) and paid quarterly. Self-scheduling with online spreadsheet is required.  
 
IMPORTANT Information: This role can be done in pairs with people from the same household OR willingness to ride along with another driver in The SEED's cargo van.

Inventory Management Volunteers review and analyze inventory for the Guelph Tool Library. Their duties include ensuring inventory is accounted for, cataloguing and inventorying new tools, and coming up with process improvements that are beneficial to the Guelph Tool Library.

Librarians work a shift of at least one and a half to two hours in length. Duties include signing out tools, putting new items into inventory, and answering members questions. Librarians receive training and will partner with an experienced librarian to learn the role.

Physical distancing is helping to flatten the curve, but created more isolation. Note of Hope is an initiative to help clients & volunteer feel more connected to the community and the Guelph CHC. Volunteers are making it a special day by writing positive messages that are being sent to clients or included in Groceries from The SEED and Food Access deliveries.  
 
People that received the cards say things like: 
 
"Last order I had delivered came with a "hope you are doing well" type card and it was perfect timing as my sister passed away the day before. Thank you so much for that card. I appreciate this service so much, thank you!" or "thanks for the cute little cards. I keep them on my fridge. "

Accessing food at this time can be challenging for those most deeply affected by COVID-19. Vulnerable seniors, people with low-income, families with children and people with health challenges may have barriers to getting to, accessing (not able to bring children into facility) or getting their food home from emergency food providers.  
 
Food Access Volunteers play a very important role by linking community members to the food they need. This in-person role includes pick-up of hampers/boxes from emergency food providers, food cupboards or food banks and delivery the food to Guelph CHC clients.  
 
Pick-ups and deliveries are made within the the City of Guelph. Deliveries are to the door only, volunteers are not required to enter homes.  
 
This position requires volunteers to have access to a vehicle and be able to lift 20 to 30 lbs. Mileage fees are provided. 
 
This role is immensely helpful for both clients and staff. At this time GCHC Staff are helping with this need. Having volunteers means that our staff can better focus on connecting clients with other needs they may have.

Volunteer Office Assistant provides an in-person opportunity for volunteers to support the work of the GCHC, The SEED and staff. GCHC Staff will work with volunteers and re-visit task list, working hours, working location regularly to ensure this is a meaningful and helpful role for both volunteers and staff. Based on Public Health requirements changes may need to be made on a short notice. Volunteers will be notified ASAP when these changes occur.
