The SEED is a not-for-profit food project at the Guelph Community Health Centre that was
created to work towards a community with no barriers to healthy food. The Emergency Food Delivery Program is a response to Covid-19. This program supports 10,000 community members how are most deeply affected by the COVID-19 situation. For example: seniors, people with low-income, people with health challenges.
Delivery Crew Volunteers are critical to the success of this program. Delivery Drivers bring healthful food to people with barriers to transportation or who are unable to leave their homes.
Delivery Crew Volunteers pick up Emergency Food Baskets at the packing warehouse and delivery them to community members homes. The Packing Warehouse is located on Huron Street in the Ward. It is a large enough building to drive into, has ample space for physical distance & everyone is required to be masked. Volunteer are required to drop Food Baskets off at the client doorway and do not enter homes.
IMPORTANT Information: This position requires use of personal vehicle and cell phone. This role can be done in pairs with people from the same household.
*** Note: Due to the high number of applications and limited spaces open, we are not able to place everyone that applies. While we appreciate everyone who shows interest and applies, volunteers are offered roles based on best fit.
Food Access Delivery Volunteers play a very important role by linking community members to the food they need. This includes pick-up of hampers/boxes from emergency food providers, food cupboards or food banks and delivery the hamper/boxes to Guelph CHC clients. Pick-ups and deliveries are made within the the City of Guelph. Deliveries are to the door only, volunteers are not required to enter homes.
This position requires volunteers to have access to a vehicle and be able to lift 20 to 30 lbs. Mileage fee are provided.
Deliveries are done in teams of two (one driver and one runner). Volunteer positions are available for both tasks.
Volunteer drivers are needed for clients in Guelph and Wellington County.
As a valuable member of our driver roster, you are not limited to driving the truck, but in fact have the opportunity to receive training on many different roles within the ReStore, growing your skills and experience in this fast-paced and exciting industry.
Food Delivery Drivers: Will attend the packing site to pick up boxes that will then be delivered to the students at home.
Food & Friends at Home Site Lead: Will assist with leading the packing site, communicating with parents, communicating, training and scheduling and recognition of volunteers.
Administrators: Will support the program paper work, track local sale prices on specified food items, assist with budgeting and fundraising.
