The SEED is a not-for-profit food project at the Guelph Community Health Centre that was 
created by a coalition to work towards a community with no barriers to healthy food. The SEED delivers programs and operates a social enterprise that address the causes and effects of food security.  
 
Groceries from the SEED is a pay-what-you-can online grocery store with a purpose! When you shop at Groceries from the SEED you help people in your community afford good food. Packing and Warehouse Crew volunteers work together as a team (physically distance) to accurately pick and pack fresh food and frozen meals into customized baskets for home delivery.  
 
Please note: There is a physical element to this role. Some of the produce is heavy or awkward. For example: a full cabbage, bag of potatoes and the full food baskets. 
 
Packing and Warehouse Crew works on Tuesday and Friday 11-3pm.

*** Note: Due to the high number of applications and limited spaces open, we are not able to place everyone that applies. While we appreciate everyone who shows interest and applies, volunteers are offered roles based on best fit.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph, Mentoring Services for Children and Youth

An Online Group Leader will be a positive role model and mentor to a small group of youth in grades 5-8. Two volunteers will work together to facilitate a variety of planned group games involving social skills and physical skills, which are provided to the volunteers in advance. Volunteers provide youth who are in need of support with a positive social environment, and build relationships with youth in order to express care and provide guidance.
East Wellington Community Services, Erin - 45 Main St
Help to provide a comfortable, safe ride to/from our Adult Day Program, in Erin. Board the bus at Centre 2000, 14 Boland Drive, Erin. Greet clients, ask screening questions, offer hand sanitizer, ensure clients are seated safely. Walk them to/from the bus to the front door.

• Engage in a variety of phone calls (social calls, safety checks, wellness checks, medication reminders, and distress/crisis calls) to support community members experiencing isolation and/or distress 
• Provide emotional support and referrals to community services as needed

• Write notes summarizing completed phone calls

Delivery Crew Volunteers are critical to the success of this program. Delivery Crew Volunteers pick up Groceries from the SEED baskets at the packing warehouse and delivery them to community members homes. Volunteers are required to drop groceries off at the door and do not enter homes.  
 
Use of personal vehicle and cell phone are required for this role. Mileage compensation of use of personal vehicle is $6 per delivery route (6-10 stops) and paid quarterly. Self-scheduling with online spreadsheet is required.  
 
 
IMPORTANT Information: This role can be done in pairs with people from the same household OR willingness to ride along with another driver in The SEED's cargo van.

Physical distancing is helping to flatten the curve, but created more isolation. Note of Hope is an initiative to help clients & volunteer feel more connected to the community and the Guelph CHC. Volunteers are making it a special day by writing positive messages that are being sent to clients or included in Groceries from The SEED and Food Access deliveries.  
 
Help us by creating artwork or kind notes of encouragement and hope. Keep your messages general and avoid including personal information.

Volunteers are encouraged to use plain card stock and art supplies, to get creative and decorate with markers, coloured pencils and/or stickers. In other words, unleash their compassion and creativity in an 1/4 page size.

- Create welcoming environment - language skills an asset 
- Follow COVID safety protocols (must wear a mask & visor, wash hands sanitize frequently, clean surfaces, etc.) 
- Check the communications sheet 
- Begin the daily task list and complete throughout shift 
- Ensure sufficient clothing for shift 
- Call reception to indicate ability to receive a shopper 
- Give community member a white basket located by the Clothing Bureau door 
- If community member has children with them, ensure children are supervised for their safety  
- Allow community members to shop on own for clothing 
- Check in every few minutes to see if community member needs help 
- Fill out and tally the points for clothing selected 
- Help bag up selected clothing 
- Place completed form on clipboard 
- Call reception to indicate readiness to accept additional shoppers (1 max at a time) 
- Follow health & safety protocols 
- At end of day staple clothing sheets together and put in bottom drawer at reception 
- Other duties as assigned

- Sort eggs in the walk-in cooler and put into empty half containers to put in Food Market for selection

WE Breastfeed & Chestfeed program supports parents feeding human milk in any way, in any amount. Parents can receive support in two ways. One-to-one telephone support with trained and experienced parent-volunteers or weekly drop-in Breastfeeding & Chestfeed Cafes. Cafe is offered in an online format and is a great place for parents to socialize with other breastfeeding / chestfeeding families and get support with challenges. 
 
Become trained to offer support and lead group sessions providing feeding & parenting support to other parents. Keep logs of supporting, track hours, remain in good communication with the program coordinator. 
 
 
IMPORTANT Information:  
 
Volunteers in this role are required to have had breastfeed or chestfeeding experience. Please consider joining this program as an administrative support or in a health promotion role if you do not have breast or chest feeding experience.  
 
Guelph CHC acknowledges the importance of Peer-led work and offers 20 hours of training for this position but also ask for a minimum 6 month commitment. 
 
One of our strategic aims to build capacity in our community. Volunteers in this role must have a connection to Guelph.
