Duties** Our Refugee Family **

In August of 2017, Church of the Apostles was presented with an opportunity to sponsor a refugee family of four. The family fled Sierra Leone and currently resides in Israel. The family has worked diligently completing their part of the refugee process and have overcome many hurdles. We were expecting them to arrive in March 2020 but the pandemic stopped almost all refugees coming to Canada. We have many hopeful signs that this is about to change and we are preparing for the family's arrival.

The Church of the Apostles is preparing for their arrival in two ways. We are going to do fundraising to cover the expected costs for their first year in Guelph. This work is being carried out by the Refuge Sponsorship Committee. In addition, we are setting up sub-committees that will handle the many tasks required to be completed when the family arrives. Areas to volunteer include:

* Accommodations and rental search and secure
* Setting up communication and utilities
* Accommodations: move and set up
* Initial food and essentials
* Transportation to interviews and appointments
* Settlement and orientation (Registration at government offices including employment, schools)
* Language/ESL
