Duties

A School-Based Group Leader will be a positive role model and mentor to a small group of youth in grades 5-8. Two volunteers will work together to facilitate a variety of planned group games and activities centered around the themes of mental wellness, physical health, and self confidence, which are provided to the volunteers in advance. Volunteers provide youth who are in need of support with a positive social environment, and build relationships with youth in order to express care and provide guidance.

Volunteers receive training in child safety, child development and communication skills. The experience gained presents an opportunity for personal/career development and satisfaction as a result of experiences, training opportunities and support. Volunteers also feel a sense of fulfillment because they have provided a safe, supportive, non-judgemental environment for a child and may build a strong friendship.

A weekly 1-hour meeting time will be planned based on the volunteers' schedules. This meeting time will be consistent over the 7 week group duration.

Spring ; Fall ; Winter ; New groups start at the beginning of each elementary school semester. Volunteers may commit to one semester with the possibility of continuing.

Commitment of 7 weeks from start date is required
