Duties• Encourage the conversation partner to speak and practice English through informal conversation 
• Initiate conversations based on appropriate topics  
• Demonstrate active listening during meetings with conversation partner 
• Explain unfamiliar concepts and words when needed 
• Maintain a warm and welcoming environment where the conversation partner is treated with dignity and respect 
• Regularly and consistently track meetings, including date, time, duration, meeting platform and content of meeting using the hours tracking software 
• Plan meetings and gather resources to support the conversation partner’s language needs 
• Communicate any concerns or challenges to the program coordinator

ESL or adult teaching experience would be an asset.
Commitment LengthShort Term (Up to 4 months) - 1-2 hours per week for 8-10 weeks (1 Client) ; This is a program that runs all year around. The commitment will be up to 8-10 weeks to complete the process with 1 client. The program will begin at the convenience of the Volunteer and the client.
Interaction LevelOne-on-one ; Volunteers will support newcomers to Canada with different levels of English proficiency through 1-on-1 conversation practice.

Dates and TimesTiming is flexible and is arranged on a mutually convenient basis, according to the volunteer and participant's convenience.
