DutiesVolunteers shovel snow (including the accumulation of snow left at the end of driveways when the streets are plowed) following a heavy snowfall for senior and/or disabled residents.

BenefitsThis is an opportunity to assist a senior (65 years or older) and/or a person with a physical disability. It is also a great way to give back to the community, build character and earn community service hours for high school graduation.
ClientsResidents of Guelph who are seniors (65 years or older) and/or have a physically disability and therefore unable to shovel. Eligible residents cannot afford to pay for snow removal and have no able bodied person living in the household able to shovel.

Skills/ExperienceVolunteers must be physically able to shovel snow.
Commitment LengthShort Term (Up to 4 months) ; The commitment required is dependent on the number of significant snow events in a winter season. A commitment of one winter season is preferred. A volunteer must commit to clear snow at a minimum of one driveway, however a person can commit to more driveways if desired.
Interaction LevelSolitary ; It is not required for the volunteer to interact with the resident.
Dates and TimesVolunteers have 24 hours to clear the windrow following the end of a significant snowfall, defined by the City of Guelph to be 10 cm accumulation.

We are in need of volunteers who reside in all neighbourhoods throughout the city of Guelph.
TrainingOrientation ; Scheduled training ; Orientation and training is provided by the Program Coordinator.
TransportationPIN The People and Information Network will aim to match volunteers and residents within the same neighbourhood however, if the volunteer has a vehicle and is willing to travel we will consider a broader geographic area.
