|Duties||Help someone learn literacy and Essential Skills for work, learning and life! After orientation and training, you will be matched with a learner to work together regularly (probably once a week) towards their goals. Action Read will help you identify learning strategies and resources and evaluate progress. |

|Benefits||Tutors meet other local people who are committed to social justice through lifelong learning. Other benefits include initial and ongoing tutor training, frequent workshops on various subjects, and events such as holiday parties, picnics and volunteer appreciation night. There are also opportunities to take on special projects or facilitate workshops for learners and tutors.|

Learners take the lead in the direction of their learning, and tutors facilitate rather than direct learning. Learners are encouraged to set goals so that their training supports the literacy tasks they will need in their home and community, at work, or in further education. Action Read staff will help learners and tutors identify useful resources and learning strategies and evaluate progress.

Times/Days are flexible. Learning pairs usually meet once a week for 2-3 hours in the office for a period of at least 6 months with staff support.
