Description (Service) | This rehabilitation driving assessment centre is approved by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) to assess medical fitness to drive and to provide driving rehabilitation. Initial Driving Assessment includes: * in-office assessment * on-road assessment * discussion of results Possible results include: * Functional Driving Skills (pass) * Driving Rehabilitation Candidate * Driving Cessation Recommended If Driving Rehabilitation is recommended, then the client is eligible to participate in rehabilitation driving lessons. Client would be taught functional driving skills and compensatory strategies. If the client participates in lessons, and lessons are successful, the client would then be eligible for a reassessment. Reassessment includes on-road assessment and discussion of results. Adaptive Driving Equipment: Services include assessment, training and prescription for vehicle modifications. If the client requires the use of a modified vehicle, notify staff prior to booking an assessment. Program staff include Occupational Therapists and driving instructors with experience and training in driving assessment and rehabilitation. NOTE: The final decision regarding the status of client's licence is made by the MTO. |

Eligibility | Ages: 16 year(s) and up Any individual who has a medical condition which may affect his/her ability to drive is eligible for a driving assessment. The client’s licence may be valid or suspended. If the client’s licence is suspended, an application will be made to MTO for a one day temporary licence for the purpose of driving assessment. Depending on the circumstances, the assessment may or may not be an MTO requirement. The program is open to both experienced and novice drivers. |
Application | Clients may self-refer over the phone. Doctors' referrals and nurse practitioners' referrals accepted. Referral forms are available through the office and website. |
