Description (Service) | Literacy programs provide recruitment and training of volunteers and ongoing support. Literacy programs in Guelph include: * reading circles (Priory Park PS) * homework club (West End Community Centre, Westwood PS) * After School Program (John Galt PS, Westwood PS) * Number Ninjas Math Skills Program (Brant Ave PS) Volunteer tutors spend 1-2 hours each week reading with a child / youth, helping with homework or doing other literacy-related activities. Programs are organized and coordinated through a student-led Organizational Team and supported by a Frontier College staff person. Volunteers do not need to be students to get involved. Conferences, training sessions, idea exchanges and networking opportunities are organized in various locations to offer professional development and bring together community partners. Programs offered across Canada. |
