Description (Agency) | National literacy organization that works with volunteers and community partners to give people the skills and confidence needed to reach their potential. Recruits, screens, trains and matches volunteers to work with children, youth and adults. Also assists other community-based organizations to set up and run literacy programs for their own participants. |
Description (Service) | COVID-19 Update: Programs and service locations may have changed, contact for more information. Literacy and homework support programs provide recruitment and training of volunteers and ongoing support. In-person educational programming in Guelph is currently suspended due to COVID-19. Contact for information about virtual tutoring opportunities. Previous in-person programs in Guelph include: * Reading Circles (Priory Park PS) * Homework Club (West End Community Centre, Westwood PS) * After School Program (John Galt PS, Westwood PS) * Number Ninjas Math Skills Program (Brant Avenue PS) Frontier College Guelph is now running virtual afterschool educational support programs for the winter 2021 semester. Inquire by e-mail if interested in becoming a virtual tutor. Volunteer virtual tutors spend 1-2 hours each week reading with a child / youth, helping with homework or doing other literacy-related activities. Programs are organized and coordinated through a volunteer-led Organizational Team and supported by a Frontier College staff person. |
