Description & Services
Description (Service) Free tax preparation clinics for those unable to complete their income tax and benefit return themselves and are unable to pay for assistance. Where indicated, call ahead to book an appointment at the desired location.  
 
Clinics listed below are offered through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).  
 
Volunteers do not prepare complex returns for: deceased persons; bankruptcy; capital gains or losses; self employment; business or rental income and expenses, employment expenses

The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) is a collaboration between the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and community organizations. The organizations host tax preparation clinics and arrange for volunteers to prepare tax returns for eligible individuals who have low income and a simple tax situation. 
 
The CRA offers training and tax software for the volunteers as well as a network of CVITP coordinators to guide community organizations as they deliver the program. The registration period to become a CVITP volunteer is Oct-Jan.

Eligibility CVITP Income Eligibility Criteria (suggested maximum income levels serve as a guideline only): 
Single individuals with an annual income of $30,000 or less; 
One adult with one child with an income of $35,000 or less -- add $2,500 for each additional child; 
A married or common law couple without dependants with an income of $40,000 or less; 
Interest Income under $1,000 
 
**Local community organizations have flexibility to adjust eligibility criteria for tax filers based on local economic considerations, the population served, and their own capacity 
 
Eligible taxpayers may include: low income seniors, individuals with disabilities or on social assistance, students, and newcomers to Canada. Call 1-800-959-8281 for information.
