Description & Services
DescriptionAdministers and enforces court-ordered child and spousal support responsibilities. 
* ensures support payments flow properly from payers to recipients 
* enforces those provisions of an order or agreement dealing with support and extraordinary expenses (does not become involved in child custody or access issues) 
* enforces domestic contracts such as separation agreements filed with the courts 
* ensures compliance with support orders from reciprocating jurisdictions (another province, state or country) 
* has legal authority to collect support payments and take enforcement action to recover support that is owed 
* arranges for payer's employer or other income source to deduct support payments from payer's income
Sup. DescriptionThe payer has a legal obligation to pay support to the recipient. When possible, support payments are deducted automatically from payer's income sources (such as salaries/pensions). Otherwise, payer must send payments directly to the Family Responsibility Office. 
** If support payments are not made, the Family Responsibility Office has the legal authority to take enforcement action under the Family Responsibility and Support Arrears Enforcement Act, 1996.**
